No Corn Syrup, No Seed Oils, No Synthetic Dyes — What's Actually in Our Gummies

Most supplement brands tell you what's in their product on the front of the label. The real story is on the back. At Happy Soul, the ingredient list isn't a legal formality — it's the whole point. Here's exactly what we don't put in our gummies, why, and what we use instead.
Every ingredient in a formula is a choice. When a brand uses corn syrup, seed oils, or artificial dyes, they made a deliberate decision to use those ingredients — usually because they're cheaper or easier to work with. When a brand avoids them, that's also a deliberate decision. This post explains ours.
Why the Ingredient List Matters More Than the Front Label
Front labels are marketing. They're designed to attract attention and communicate a brand's positioning as quickly as possible. Words like "natural," "clean," "plant-based," and "superfood" appear on thousands of products — many of which contain ingredients that contradict those claims entirely.
The ingredient list is the only part of a supplement label that is legally required to be accurate. Ingredients must be listed in descending order by weight — the ingredient present in the highest amount appears first. The first three ingredients make up the majority of what you're actually consuming.
If the first three ingredients of a "healthy gummy" are sugar, corn syrup, and gelatin — that tells you everything you need to know. The plant extracts, superfoods, and health claims on the front are a sprinkle on top of a candy base.
At Happy Soul, the ingredient list is short, readable, and built from ingredients we'd use if we were formulating for ourselves — because originally, we were.
No Corn Syrup — What We Use Instead
Corn syrup is one of the most common ingredients in gummy supplements. It's cheap, widely available, and creates the soft, chewy texture consumers associate with gummies. It also has no nutritional value and is a heavily processed ingredient that most health-conscious consumers actively try to avoid.
Why Corn Syrup Is Everywhere
Corn syrup is a liquid sweetener derived from corn starch through a chemical process that breaks down the starch into glucose. It's significantly cheaper than natural alternatives and is extremely forgiving in gummy manufacturing — making it easy to produce consistent results at scale. For brands prioritizing margins over ingredient quality, it's the obvious choice.
What Happy Soul Uses Instead
We use two clean sweetener alternatives that appear on every Happy Soul label:
Organic cane sugar — a real, recognizable sweetener derived directly from sugar cane. It provides structure and sweetness in a form that every ingredient-literate consumer immediately recognizes. We use it in minimal amounts — less than 1 gram of sugar per piece.
Organic tapioca syrup — a natural syrup derived from the cassava root that functions as a binder and texturizer in place of corn syrup. It's used widely in clean-label food manufacturing as the standard corn syrup replacement. Unlike corn syrup, it's recognizable, minimally processed, and doesn't carry the same ingredient-label stigma.
The result is a formula with less than 1 gram of sugar per piece — significantly lower than most gummy supplements on the market — using sweeteners you can actually recognize and pronounce.
No Seed Oils — Why They Don't Belong in a Wellness Product
Seed oils — including canola oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, and similar highly refined vegetable oils — appear in some gummy formulas as a coating or processing aid. They're used for manufacturing convenience, applied as a surface treatment to prevent gummies from sticking together or to create a glossy appearance.
They serve no nutritional purpose. They're included because they make manufacturing easier — not because they benefit the person consuming the product.
A wellness product that includes seed oils as a coating ingredient is prioritizing manufacturing convenience over the integrity of what goes in the formula. At Happy Soul, no seed oils are used at any stage of the formulation or manufacturing process.
No Synthetic Dyes — Why Our Gummies Look the Way They Do
Most gummy supplements and vitamins are brightly colored — vivid reds, yellows, greens, and oranges that look appealing on a shelf and signal fruit flavors to the consumer. Almost none of that color comes from actual fruit. It comes from synthetic dyes: Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, and similar artificial colorants.
Why Artificial Dyes Are Used
Synthetic dyes are inexpensive, stable, and produce vivid, consistent color regardless of what's in the formula. When a gummy contains very little actual plant material — which is common — there's no natural pigment to contribute color. Brands add synthetic dyes to make up for what the formula lacks.
Why Happy Soul Looks Different
Our gummies are darker and more opaque than typical gummies. They're not candy-bright. That color comes entirely from the plant ingredients in the formula — anthocyanins from berries, chlorophyll from greens, betalains from beets. No dye is added. No color is manufactured.
The dark, earthy tone of a Happy Soul gummy is a direct reflection of its plant density. The color is the formula showing through. If our gummies were bright and translucent, that would be a sign that the plant content had been stripped out and replaced with artificial color — which is exactly what happens with most competitors.

What We Always Use
Every Happy Soul formula is built from the same short list of clean, purposeful ingredients. None of them require a chemistry degree to understand.
A real, recognizable sweetener used in minimal amounts. Less than 1g of sugar per piece. Sourced from sugar cane — not a manufacturing by-product.
A clean binder derived from cassava root. The standard clean-label replacement for corn syrup. Recognizable, minimally processed, and widely accepted as a natural ingredient.
The gelling agent that gives our gummies their texture — derived from fruit peel, not animal by-products. No gelatin. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Real fruit and vegetable sources — not synthetic vitamin isolates. 80+ plants in every formula, contributing natural pigment, phytonutrients, and vitamins.
Flavors sourced from real plant materials — not chemically synthesized flavor compounds. The taste comes from the plants, not a laboratory.
Every formula is also third-party tested for quality and purity, including screening for heavy metals. Because when you're formulating with concentrated plant material, verification isn't optional.

Read the Label. We Mean It.
Every Happy Soul formula has a short, clean ingredient list — no corn syrup, no seed oils, no synthetic dyes. See for yourself.
